Overview

The Fonterra Te Rapa Cream Cheese Plant underwent a major expansion to meet rising global demand for frozen whole milk concentrate. The upgrade aimed to increase total production capacity and introduce greater product flexibility.

Nemesys was contracted by Tetra Pak to provide automation resources and deliver a fully integrated control system, enabling seamless operation across the plant’s new Product Chiller Systems, FOSS, and Filler lines.

Key Features
  • Integrated Automation System: Development of Level 2 Grafcet Function Diagrams and complete PLC/HMI systems.
  • Multi-Product Capability: Configured to process frozen whole milk concentrate, mascarpone, and additional product lines on the same system.
  • Inline Standardisation: Real-time control of fat, protein, and total solids for higher product consistency.
  • Conveyor & Filler Upgrades: Enhanced throughput and operational efficiency with new integrated Filler and conveyor systems.
  • Advanced Control Platforms: Utilised Control Logix Process PLCs, SICK Flexisoft Safety PLC, FactoryTalk View SE HMI, ABB ACS Drives, and Flex/Point IO systems (500 I/O count).
